Becoming a Member

Becoming A Member

Becoming a member of First Baptist is currently a fairly simple process.  Our process begins with a simple conversation with the pastor or a board member.  We want to get to know you and how we might serve you and you might serve the church.  After this initial conversation, pending an endorsement/ recommendation from our Board of Administers, our constitution allows new members to be accepted based on at least one of the following criteria:

  1. By Baptism.  Any person who confesses Jesus Christ as Savior and LORD and adopts substantially the views of faith, principles, and doctrine of this church and is baptized may be received into the fellowship of this church.
  2. By Letter. A believer who has been baptized upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ, who is in substantial accord with the views of faith and principles of this church may be received by letter from any other evangelical Christian church.
  3. By Experience. A believer of worthy character who has been baptized upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ, who has formerly been a member of a church but who, for a sufficient reason, cannot present a letter from that church but who is in substantial accord with the views of faith, principles, and covenant of this church may be received upon statement of experience.
  4. By Restoration.  Any person who has lost his/her membership for any reason may be restored to membership upon recommendation of the Board of Administers.

A member in good standing of First Baptist Church is expected to maintain a personal walk with God through prayer; scripture reading; a personal lifestyle above reproach; regular involvement in the ministries of the church; and support of the church with their regular attendance, finances, and talent.

Some people, for various reasons of their own, may decide First Baptist church membership is not for them.  While we hope those folks will someday change their mind, we respect and honor their right to make their own decisions.  While leadership roles and business decisions within the church are reserved exclusively for members, non-members are heartily and enthusiastically welcomed to participate in as many other areas of church life as they wish.  Many folks around our church do exactly this.  We hope to always be a church with doors open to all – at all stages of spiritual walk.  We believe Jesus demands no less of us!
